The Colic, Irritability, Reflux. Intolerance & Allergy Study (CIRIAS) is a randomised controlled trial of maternal dietary interventions to determine the links between maternal diet and colic and other symptoms in exclusively breast fed infants aged up to 4 months. The CIRIAS study involves a 4 week commitment, mother's diets are changed in weeks 2 & 3, and the eliminated foods are reintroduced in week 4 to see the effect on baby's discomfort and gastrointestinal tract. There are a series of crying diaries and toileting charts to complete as well as on-line surveys and breast milk and faecal matter samples are to be collected throughout the study.
