Kids Cooking Workshop - Fat: The Good, the bad and the ugly

At this afternoon's workshop, we discussed the various types of fats with the children from Ultimo primary school who were very excited to learn about dietary fats.  Our dietitian, Victoria, explained to the children why they need to include fat in their diet, what type of fats is best for them and how much fat are contained in the food they normally eat.  The kids enjoyed making tuna, veggie pasta salad AND EATING it too.  After all the "hard" work of slicing the cucumber, peeling and grating the carrot, cutting the corn kernels off the corn cob, they can enjoy their own creation.  At first, they thought it would taste bland (as it was made without salt and mayo etc), but once they tasted the fresh veggie particularly the corn kernels they cut off from the cob themselves the plates were polished off pretty quickly.  I hope with more "training" their palate will accept low salt food more.:)
