Time flies and its time to plan for the vacation care program for the upcoming summer vacation. We've renamed our Kids Cooking Workshop to Kids Nutrition Workshop to better reflect the nutritional focus of the workshop.
Some of the vacation/after school care providers that we partnered with have ordered several workshops with us so we can deliver a series of nutrition workshops to the kids over a number of weeks and at the last workshop we can run the Ready, Steady...Coo...Read Full Post »

At this afternoon's workshop, we discussed the various types of fats with the children from Ultimo primary school who were very excited to learn about dietary fats. Our dietitian, Victoria, explained to the children why they need to include fat in their diet, what type of fats is best for them and how much fat are contained in the food they normally eat. We live in an obesogenic environment...energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods & drinks are heavily marketed and are readily available to most of us. I have heard analogy that went as far to compare us with the Hunter-gather era only that nowadays we are being hunt by junk foods!

Last week we ran the "Ready, Steady...Cook" kids cooking workshop at Paddington Primary School and the kids had so much fun. Our dietitians, Erin and Chicco, talk the kids through the Australian guide to Healthy Eating explaining to them the importance of eating enough foods from the 5 food groups and the meaning of Discretionary Foods.
